Another meaningful milestone in my professional journey was in March 2023, when I completed training in Autism and Mindfulness with Neurodiversity Training International. This is an area I feel deeply passionate about, and I’m so pleased to continue growing my knowledge in ways that directly support the children and families I work with every day.
Over the years, working with children has shown me just how important it is to truly understand each child’s unique way of experiencing the world. Every child is different, and for neurodivergent children in particular, having the right support, understanding and tools can make such a meaningful difference in their confidence, emotional wellbeing and ability to thrive.
This is exactly why I chose to undertake this training.
The course gave me a deeper insight into autism from a compassionate, strengths-based perspective. It reinforced the importance of meeting children where they are, recognising their individual needs, and supporting them in ways that feel safe, empowering and respectful. I also explored how mindfulness can be gently introduced to help children regulate their emotions, reduce anxiety, and build greater self-awareness.
One of the most valuable aspects of this training was learning practical, accessible techniques that can be adapted for different children. These are simple tools, but when used in the right way, they can have a powerful impact, helping children feel calmer, more in control, and better able to understand their emotions.
This training has not only expanded my knowledge, but also deepened my confidence in supporting neurodivergent children, as well as guiding parents and schools in how best to support them too. It aligns so closely with my approach at Sinead York Wellbeing, creating a safe, nurturing space where every child feels seen, understood and supported.
Continuing professional development is so important to me. I believe that in order to offer the best possible support, we must keep learning, growing and evolving. Completing this course was another important step in that journey.
If you are a parent, teacher, or simply someone who wants to better understand how to support a child with their emotional wellbeing, I’d love to connect with you.
Together, we can help children feel calmer, more confident, and better equipped to navigate their world.
